The Review of Critiques on the Tadhkira Majma ‘al-khawas ofSadegh Beg
Sadegh Beg Afshar is one of the significant figures of the Afshar tribe and one of the men of the Shah Abbas Safavid
era. During the reign of Shah Abbas the Great Sadegh Beg was appointed librarian of the court and was nicknamed
“Sadeghi the Librarian.” Sadeghi is a poet, calligrapher, and painter of his time. The most important book he left behind
is the Tadhkira Majma ‘al-khawas in the biographies of poets, kings, and the aristocrats of the Safavid era. Sadeghi, who
was Turkish-speaking (Uighur), wrote the book Tadhkira Majma ‘al-khawas in Chagatai in 1607 (1016 A.H). Abdol Rasul
Khayyampoor retranslated the Tadhkira from Turkish to Persian for the first time in 1948. He used three different available
versions of the book; however, some researchers have criticized his work. In this article, while introducing the Majma
‘al-khawas of Sadeghi Afshar, the critiques of this translation and some issues regarding the existing theories related to
literary criticism have been discussed.
